After 10 years of Flovac’s business being focused on the European, Middle East and Australian/NZ markets Flovac has finally opened it’s first office in the America’s. Marcelo Moacyr has been appointed CEO of the office based in Houston which will look after the North and South American markets and the Caribbean.
Mr. Moacyr has over 20 years of experience in the infrastructure sector, leading several project development and construction undertakings in the United States and Brazil. Prior to joining FLOVAC, Mr. Moacyr was the President & CEO of Odebrecht Environmental, the US subsidiary of Odebrecht Ambiental, a leading private utility company with operations in water and wastewater concessions and public-private partnerships.
Mr. Moacyr has served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Houston Partnership during the 2013-2015 term, and is currently a member of GHP’s Environmental Advisory Committee.
He is joined by Luiza Bertagni as Business Manager for the operations who will help with the establishment and growth of the business. Ms. Bertagni is an Environmental Engineer who was a Project and Planning Engineer at Odebrecht Environmental.
Although this is Flovac’s first office in the USA, Flovac has been involved in the region for some time. In 2010 Flovac completed a large septic tank replacement project in Ingenio, Puerto Rico that was funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. To complete that project, Flovac valves and collection pits were manufactured in Puerto Rico.
In 2012 Flovac commenced a landmark project in Bonaire in the Southern Caribbean. Further stages of this project are still continuing. This year Flovac has commenced the first ever vacuum sewer project in Chile and is starting a project on the small island of Canouan on the islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Flovac Inc. will offer a full range of services out of the Houston office and will provide the same range of products that has set Flovac apart from it’s competitors in many other countries. Although there are a number of vacuum sewer projects in the United States they have not become the preferred option as an alternative sewer system as they have in many other countries. This has been due to the lack of competition in the marketplace with only a single supplier.
Flovac has a clear point of difference over the historic US supplier in that it’s business is only focused on vacuum sewerage systems and is not part of conglomerate where vacuum systems are only a small part of their business. This shows in the products that Flovac have developed and in the lessons learned from the projects that have been completed, from the frozen Nordic countries to the heat of the desert, the wet of the tropics and the isolation of remote islands. It is very clear to us that every project is unique and it is the strength of our people and the development of products best suited to local conditions that help clients out the most.
Vacuum sewer standards in Europe have for many years required that all vacuum systems have some form of monitoring at the valve and collection pit, this has not been the case in the US market. Flovac’s wireless and cable monitoring systems can reduce operational costs and risks significantly and Flovac’s expertise in this area will be one of the most critical area’s of growth in the US market over the coming years as many utilities look to reduce risks further.
